The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade issued the "Annual Report on China’s Exhibition Industry 2018" (referred to as the "Report") at the 15th China Expo Forum for International Cooperation (CEFCO 2019) held in Boao, Hainan on January 11. According to the Report, CMEC International Exhibition Co., Ltd of China National Machinery Industry International Co., Ltd (SINOMACHINT) organized 114 overseas exhibitions with actual an exhibition area of 53,142 square meters and 3,860 exhibition enterprises, ranking top in China for the seventh consecutive year.
Through data analysis, the Report summarizes five characteristics of the development of China's exhibition industry in 2018: First, the scale of domestic exhibitions has continuously improved, and regional difference has become more evident. In 2018, there were 3,793 economic and trade exhibitions held in China, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%; the total exhibition area was 129.49 million square meters, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%; Secondly, there was a steady growth of participation in overseas exhibitions with greater quantity and quality in Belt and Road Countries. CMEC International Exhibition Co., Ltd organized 114 exhibitions in 36 countries and regions around the world, including 15 general agents and exclusive agency projects. It also completed 54 projects in 15 countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” Initiative. Third, overseas self-operated brand exhibitions have become more mature with expanded international market space. The first China Machinery and Intelligent Manufacturing (Malaysia) Brand Exhibition organized by SINOMACHINT was selected as a typical case and highly praised by the Report; Fourth, the growth rate of the total supply of exhibition halls has slowed down, and the overall rental rate has increased significantly. In 2018, there were 164 domestic exhibition halls, a year-on-year increase of 7%, covering a total rentable indoor space of 9.83 million square meters, a year-on-year increase of 5%. The number of newly-built exhibition halls is maintained at about 10 each year; Fifth, the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) made remarkable achievements and the preparation of the 2019 International Horticultural Exhibition has made important progress. During the preparation and holding of the first CIIE, SINOMACHINT attached great importance to the work of exhibitor invitation and service guarantee, contributing to the success of the Expo.
Looking forward to 2019, the Report believes that China's exhibition industry will innovate and achieve new development, and show the following five major trends: First, the concept of green exhibition and integrated development will become a consensus; secondly, new strategies, emerging industries and new situations will become new themes of exhibitions; thirdly, consumer and cultural exhibitions will continue to expand; fourth, integrated and cross-border development will become a new model for exhibitions; fifth, information technology will accelerate innovation in exhibition services.
The Report is released during the China Expo Forum for International Cooperation (CEFCO) every year. It has been released 14 times in a row since 2005 and has had impact on the exhibition industry at home and abroad by offering professional evaluation and industrial development orientation.
